difference

Just Ollie and I yesterday, all the kids went to work with Papa for bring your kids' to work day. I love his work, they had all these activites planned and the kids had a blast!

Ollie had a serious case of the giggles, all I had to do was make a silly face and he just burst. We both were laughing like nuts!

Doesn't he look a bit like Bozo? mmmm must get his hair cut...

Catchingup

Wow my daughter just showed me how many photographers are in the yellow pages on for Cape Cod.  I can't believe how many I had no idea!  It truly makes me feel warm inside and honored that someone would choose me for their photographer out of such a pool!

I like to think Smile  that I offer something different, unique.  You won't get six poses with only one or two really good captures.  I've decided to share whole sessions now and then,so my work could speak for itself.  So you could get a feel for what I offer. You are seeing more then just my best work, you are seeing all of it.

Hideandgoseekcopy The last few sessions I've shown have been bent more towards fun but I can also do moody and beautiful. :)  So there! LOL!

Seriously like I said in my bio on my website I like to do both romantic and fun. It's why I send out my pesky little questionaire so I can know what has moved you and try to record your family, your life in the style that speaks to you.

Oh and I will be out of town for the next few days. I return any calls or emails then.

magic

I had to drive early this morning to bring back some WAYYYYYY over do library books. So I went for a little extra drive down to Wood’s hole back around the light house then the length of the Falmouth Coast.  I love the Cape so much and can’t ever imagine leaving it. A couple of years ago, we were right on the edge of taking a job my husband didn’t want and moving to New Hampshire because we couldn’t afford a home here but in the end we were very blessed to be able to stay. We live in a lovely little Cape now,it's so bright and airy I love it.

Crap

People talk about families who have been here for generations but are forced out now due to the high cost of living and housing and it is really true. My family has been here since the very start (Nye) in fact my family came over in the first boat after the pilgrims. Sorry having a senior moment can’t remember the name of the boat but my relative was a doctor and the pilgrims were a tad upset that they came with no provisions at a bad time of year.

Wrapped

The Cape has changed a lot. Places we went when we were young that now have houses built on them or fences to keep people from using the trails. You can’t help change and change isn’t always bad. But I couldn’t help being wistful when we were over on Nantucket last fall. My husband was doing some work for Nantucket Yacht Club and so I had a lovely time walking around, enjoying the island. Nantucket right now reminds me of the Cape twenty years ago, where it felt so wild and empty in the winter months, where time slowed, things were simple. I know people still feel some of that when they come to the Cape for a visit but it’s not nearly as much as it was.

Still the Cape is incredible wonderful magical place to live. My kids are mighty hunters in the summer catching puffer fish, starfish, eels, crabs etc... of course the jelly fish ouch! There are countless places to walk, even some very wild places left. It is a wonderful inspiring and supportive place to be an artist.  Where else could I live and constantly run into people I’m related too??? LOL!  Actually, I had a family I captured last week that we realized after chatting the husband is most likely related to me. (I really need to go to one of those reunions the Nye’s have, I bet I would be surprised at who I would find I’m related to that to.)

So it’s nice to now have something you can do in the winter months, that everything doesn’t just shut down but it’s also nice that that there are still bits and pieces of the Old Cape still here. In any case I’m just so thankful that another generation lives on this sandbar.

beach babies

Yesterday was so beautiful and my hubby was staying a bit late at work so I took the kids to the canal for picnic pizza then we hit town neck beach. We never want to leave and stay till the light is almost gone.  I always feel so refreshed after spending time outdoors! I'm lucky I have some garden shoots next week so good to finally be shooting outdoors again.

Ollie's messy curls

Bummer the capture is getting cut off, click on it if you want to see the entire thing. The comp is spoiled cut off like this.

All the kids (save Ollie the baby) are going to work with Chris (hubby) tomorrow. It's bring your kids to work day I wonder how many in the office have four kids coming? The company is great; they have all kinds of activities planned for them. I LOVE my husband's new company. We loved his old job too but as the company grew and was bought out, his job morphed into a job that no longer suited us. The job changed into lots of over time, tons of after hour calls and mandated weekends away, so not us. We are totally a tight family, not a perfect one but we really feel it when we don’t' get to spend time together.  One of the reasons Chris stopped working in Boston was the time issue. We would rather make less and have more time together. So he went job hunting was offered the first job he interviewed for and it's been a perfect match. It's now a very rare day when he works overtime.

Footprints

Working late my husband totally missed a funny. The kids fed the birds the crusts from our pizza's and then I guess having birds on their minds they all four made nests out of the sand. (Nadia is still such a blend of child and young lady) and pretending to be hatching eggs (rocks)by sitting on them. I totally had the giggles watching them.

Miss Frannie the stylist, I swear I like the outfits she throws together much better then anything I could ever put together.  A few months back she wore a disney Belle dress for day and months on end till the thing was just a rag.

Spring and herring

went to the park it was so lovely here, you could feel summer coming! We also went to the herring run and Sebastian was flipping out so cool to see them jump up.  You would look down at the rushing grey blue water and suddenly see a big old fish jumping up. It was fun trying to spot them ,so exciting. Then at the bottom of the falls they just pooled around. Wish I could show more of my captures but my card reader is doing some wierd things to my card. I have to get another. I nearly freaked the other day while trying to upload a sessions's captures and my computer said my card wsa empty. Thankfully I have a very computer swavy hubby would got them right back for me. I thought it was just a freak thing but it ate my captures again.

Nadia and I decided on this for her quilt covers. I've always loved this fabric but finally found a place with affordable duvet covers.

Just a quick hello

Well the kids and I had a great time at the Children’s Museum and our other outings this week.  We ran into some old friends and met some new friends, it was a fun week. Running into people, I’m constantly amazed at how many local people follow this blog. My husband in his work has spent a lot of time in different business offices and I feel like a bit of a celebrity when he tells me someone else said they read my blog all the time. (I had one on blogger for a while before I moved here) or someone says hello because they know my kids faces.  I ran into someone yesterday I had not seen in years and she told me she reads my blog.  It's really flattering and I appreciate all the encouragement.  People never believe me when I say I'm REALLY shy(because I never shut up!) but I am and it's always an big boost when I get a compliment or someone says they follow my blogs.

and of course some photos because a blog post is never the same without them!

Just started working through these, a session from this weekend. Ok I know this is going to sound so sappy but I'm sap what can i say???!!!???  Seriously I think every session I tear up at one point or another people are so precious something always melts my heart. This session was hard the baby cried through most of it. Mom would put him down and he would last about a min. At one point she laid down with him and started cooing to him. His face for the first time totally lit up. You could tell he totally adored her.  I LOVE moments like that it's why I love photography I want to capture those connections so it sounds sappy like an infomercial but it’s true.

Darn it that I didn't process one of the mom on the bed with him but I promise when I do I'll add it in and the session. It was fun his sister was a doll, seriously had the cutest grin. You could tell she adores her brother. I have the funniest shots of her jumping on her bed and just being silly.

Mom wanted the session processed in BW but I couldn't help myself I did both for a quite a few of them.

light

I am such a lover of light an observer.  A favorite quote of mine from Edward Hopper

“I’ve decided the only thing that really interests me
is how the sun hits a white wall.”

—Edward Hopper to Andrew Wyeth

Interesting is that they both are my two favorite artists with Andrew totally holding my heart.

He says so much with so little. Here are a few of my favorites

my absolute favorite

wind from the sea

It reminds me so much of the summer we rented a cottage by the ocean.  I would lie in my bedroom early morning, feeling the warm salty breezes, lifting the long white curtains in my windows.

the cooling room

We had one of these rooms in our house in CT. I can remember playing it in the summer because it was so cool with it's dirt floor.

I often just look at the light. I think the times I'm most draw to it is the moon light, late at night when all is quiet, so beautiful and moving.

Moody photography is my absolute favorite. If you like this type of work you might enjoy this photographer's website. He is just one of many that so inspire me

model

We've been having a fun week. Taking it easy since everything is canceled this week due to School vacation. It's amazing when you have some time without all the running round to this  class that class plus my kids have some friends who do not live in our town, I have to drive them there to visit. You really realize how much of your life is spent running when you have a quiet week. Some my girlfriends were getting together for coffee today and I said no thanks I want to hang out in my bunny slippers and pj's. LOL!

This boy's girlfriend was so excited when she saw his portraits according to his mom she said "She made him look like a model." LOL!  I will just as part of the session clean up skin and such. The methods I use really keep it looking natural, you can't even tell.

It's so much  fun taking kids out and just being creative where we shoot.  These were an old shed by the harbour,a motel and of course being cape cod the beach.  If you have a favorite spot or an idea that you want to try I"m game really I am. I love being creative but I also do have some favorite spots that are excellent locations for "model" shoots if you aren't sure what you want.

I usually end a shoot at the beach with some silhouettes, love doing them with a family all the interation set off and framed by the beautiful sky.
